Liftoff Yoga - What's in it for you?

When you feel good about the way you look you automatically feel better about everything else. When you exercise, the benefits include losing weight, toning up, a healthier mind and body and increased energy.

Exercise can also be very beneficial for alleviating symptoms of depression and boost your morale during those times that you are generally feeling low.

When you feel better about your body image you will indeed feel the same about everything else. It is important to remember that your perception of your body image is in fact what makes YOU feel good about yourself. It is irrelevant what is presented to you in magazines and television advertisements. All that matters is that you are content with your own weight, size and physical fitness level.

Yoga is an ancient system of health and fitness which originated in India.

Today yoga is accepted as a comprehensive exercise to promote control of the body and mind. Yoga has become accepted as one of the best ways to achieve health, fitness and balance.

Literally yoga means to unite and it is through yoga that we work towards uniting the harmonious integration of the body, mind and spirit. In this way the result is optimal health and longevity.

Yoga is not a belief or a religion but a way for us to reach our greater potential. Yoga is a refined system that works on developing and balancing strength and flexibility, stamina, focus and endurance. Through a series of physical poses and a focus on the breath and an awareness of the body, yoga helps us to deepen our sense of well being.

  1. You can start if you are unfit. The beauty of yoga is you are encouraged to practice at your own pace - and you'll notice this if you attend one of the classes.
  2. Age is not a problem. Age is no barrier to practicing yoga - in fact it's often said that if you can beat 10 women to the shoe counter in Myers on Boxing Day you can attend a yoga class! In truth there are many active practicing yoga teachers in their 70's.
  3. There is always a space to do yoga. Our classes are for both men and women and it is possible to attend up to three times a week or attend once and practice yoga at home.
  4. You can slowly build up the time you practice. Whether you have an hour and a half or just ten minutes to spare on a yoga session, if you do it regularly your body will benefit. The instructor will show you different levels of each posture so that you can adjust your session to suit your ability.
  5. Yoga is time out for yourself to be comfortable. Good news - it's all about you!. Simply wear clothes that allow freedom of movement - tracksuit pants and a T-shirt are fine. You don't need shoes either, as yoga classes are taken barefoot. It is a good idea to bring a towell, small cushion and a water bottle.
